My kid applied to 9 schools; 3.6; IB diploma candidate… She got three offers and I think she didn’t get into Smith… I’m afraid to ask. I wish I could show her a film of me at her age… How despite rejection I thrived. Alas, the pain of parenting.
D was waitlisted at 4 schools, including Smith. 3.21 GPA IB Dip cand (3.87 w) 31 ACT. Its hard to watch your kids go through this process, but if we are supportive, kids are resilient and they survive. There are thousands of applications and many of these LACs only have a few hundred spots at the most. I will say that I really have to wonder if IB was worth it. It was sooooo much work, and while I know she is well prepared for college, I really have to wonder if it was worth the hit to her GPA.
I think it probably was worth it. Everyone I know who did the IB diploma said they were more than ready for college and that, in fact, college was easy for them. I don’t know why colleges don’t seem to recognize IB as much as AP since the IB curriculum is much more similar to college work than AP is. The AP tests are nothing like the sort of tests you take at a school like Smith.
