Does anyone know if Yale provides or sells a safe or locked/secure container that can be kept in the dorm room? I've been hearing about other schools providing one for a fee that is bolted to the closet floor. If not, any suggestions on where to keep valuables?

do a search over on the Parents forum, desiw. There was a discussion about them there. I don’t think Y provides anything in this realm.

Think Bed, Bath and Beyond sells an inexpensive mini-safe.

Thanks for your help.

T26E4 - I’ve searched the parents forum and can’t find anything on safes/lock boxes in dorm rooms. I realize that Yale doesn’t provide them, but any secure box would need to be screwed into a desk drawer or something like that. I doubt that Yale would allow holes to be made in furniture, since they don’t allow holes in walls.

desiw, I don’t know what you’re trying to secure, but could you just insure it against loss/theft? Our homeowners (with a musical instrument rider) covers our S’s violin even though he’s at college.

Many of the little lock boxes from places like BB&B have short cables that can be used to secure it to an exposed pipe, bed frame, etc. Of course this will only deter someone from walking off with something that isn’t tied down, if they really want it, they can get it. My D uses one for her passport, etc., but we are using insurance to cover her laptop.

thanks guys!

We purchased the personal insurance to cover it.
