Safeties?

Hello, all. I'm a high school junior with a tiny problem. All of the colleges that I have fallen in love with are reaches/ high matches. So, I would be much obliged if some of you college experts could suggest some safeties to me =)

Colleges That I Plan To Apply To:
Brown, Cornell, either Dartmouth or Columbia (not sure yet), Brandeis, Tufts, Hamilton, Vassar

Stats:
G.P.A.: 4.0 as of sophomore year (guidance department hasn't calculated new GPAs yet), but I think that it actually went up because I just had a very good report card =). My school uses a 4.3 scale, by the way.
PSATs: 72V, 68M, 80W (the Math score is mainly due to the fact that I bubbled two answers in wrong... yes, I DO struggle with life, haha)

No SAT or SAT II scores yet, sorry!

ECs:
I'll summarize, because I know how boring it is to read down EC lists

Music: 1st clarinet in band for all 3 years of high school; DJ on radio station; conducting piece in band; marching band; pep band; music blog

Volunteering: Town Council; Council on Aging; NHS; organizing trash pick-up; organizing blood drive

Other: French Club (my fun club =D ); in the process of creating a Film Club; skiing; XC/track.

I've won school awards (outstanding achievement in Bio/Chem/English, etc.), science fair... nothing significant.

I'd like to stay within the New England area, but that's my only 'need' in regards to possible colleges.

Thanks =)

Oh, and I want to major in Biochem. That could make a difference.

Try the tool at the Princeton Review, it will give you safe, match, and reach schools. You will have to convert your PSAT to SAT given the projection you get with the resuts.

http://www.princetonreview.com/college/research/advsearch/match.asp

look at your state school. depending on where you are, this could be a viable choice

Ehhh.... I'm not too fond of my state schools... I'm struggling to find safeties that I could actually see myself attending. I haven't fallen in love with any so far... or even -liked- any of them... I'm too picky =(

Get over your picky and look at this as your future! Great schools and probably a good chance to attend, depending on your SAT's. Find the best in your state and apply, also a few private colleges without that great recognition. Better to receive many acceptances and narrow down the choices, than to overestimate your chances and have no schools in which to apply.

thanks for the princeton link...very interesting results

Would Fordham be considered a safety for me? My stats are higher than their average ones, but it's difficult for me to gauge these things.
Also, what about Juniata? There seems to be a special emphasis on science there.

My D is most likely going to attend Juniata next Fall, and she will be going from the Northwest. She was very impressed with the curriculum, professors and students at the school. I suggest you go as a junior, attend some classes and do an overnight. She is choosing it over more rigorous schools even though their selectivity is lower on paper. It is a very special place if you want a small, rural, LAC.
