safety, match or reach?

How do I determine if a school is considered a safety, match or reach for me? Since the only quanitative things I can see about a school is the test scores range, GPA, and class rank, can I use those three things to pretty much decide which schools are safeties, matches or reaches? Because we have no way of deciding how extracurriculars, essays and recs would be judged.

You have to know how competitive the school is relative to your stats. It might be helpful for you to post a chances thread.

princetonreview.com has a relatively good survery where you put in stats & what you're looking for in a college, and then they give you a bunch of safeties/matches/reaches....but of course, it's just a survey

^ LMAO, that survey is complete trash. it told me that Harvard was a safety school and that Cornell was a reach...you should post a chances thread.

like I said, it's just a survery....I think it did a pretty good job for me; maybe it depends

The SAT scores, GPA, and class rank statistics can show you relatively well how you fit into admissions at a particular school. Posting a chance thread would be an excellent idea though.

This site has a chances calculator. You put in your info and select a college and it says if it's a reach, maybe, or good bet. All you have to do is set up a free account, although I don't know how accurate it is.

those surveys are pretty worthless because they're based only on numbers. there are so many other things that go into admissions decisions that it's hard to say just based on someone's tests scores and grades which is why you should post a chances thread.
