hey, I’m a senior in ca. wondering about my chances at SCS

ACT: 31 or 2100 sat

AP’s: Span- 5 Eng- 4 US History- 3

GPA:3.4 w

ECs listed on app: football, track, was in 2 clubs, and work

Job/Work Experience: did finances that were really receipts at a family friend’s company and also had a job there too

Essays (subject and responses): already started so they should be very good- on two hardships that have come down on me the last 2 years, and my dealing w/ them.

Teacher Recs: better than great

Counselor Rec: great

School Type: Private, does not rank

Ethnicity: Hispanic

Gender:M

Also: Took 3 summer courses at a local comm. college

Safety/Match, definitely stronger than a reach.

But this day and age, nothing's sure, so let's say Match. Based on what I know about what OSU (What is SCS?) is looking for, I'd say confidently you could get in.

Unlikely, but possible if their SAT/ACT scores were in the toilet.

From what I've experienced through having many friends who got in and some friends who did not, raw numbers like GPA and SAT/ACT may be more important that essays.

I would consider it a strong match at least - I don't know if their standards are tougher or lighter for OOS students, so I hesitate to call it a for-sure safety. I'd still be pretty confident.

In state students with GPA's of 3.5 are definitely at risk or rejection, but I think you would probably get in with that 31. Does your school offer a lot of AP's and you only will have had 3 by the time you graduate?
I would hesitate to call it a safety.

Yeah, actually I know people that had 3.5s and got deferred to the branch campuses. I think that they want out of state students so that should be a plus for you.

um well we do have a few ap's but not many. for instance, junior year we can only take 2 ap's. senior year, though, i've got a bit of ap's as more of the ap's are geared toward seniors

A few of my older brother's friends applied to OSU as the class of 2011, though I'm not sure which programs, and were rejected with GPAs around 3.3 and 3.4. I believe all three had above average SAT/ ACT scores and had taken some honors and AP courses, and fully expected to be accepted to main campus, but weren't.

That being said, your ACT score means you could apply for the honors program, so I think for you, OSU would be a match.

considering that you got a 31 on ACT, that was what I got and it gets you into the honors program automatically and even with the low GPA i dont think you ll have a problem getting in.
