Safety School Help

I need a school where I will almost be guaranteed acceptance. I am interested in computer science. Here is my info.

Right now I have Purdue Univ and Boston Univ as safeties, but I need more.

Applying for computer science, out of state for all public schools listed.

ACADEMIA:

Freshman GPA: 3.52
Sophomore GPA: 3.52
Junior GPA: 3.75 W, 3.7 UW
Overall GPA: About 3.6

SAT Critical Reading: 610
SAT Math: 680
SAT Writing: 680
Total: 1970

My School does not rank.

AP Courses:
Biology (This year)
Computer Science A (Next Year)
Economics (Next Year)

3 letters of recommendation (math teacher, club advisor, guidance counselor)

EXTRACURRICULARS:

President of Support our Soldiers Club
-Interviewed WW2 Veteran, contributed to National Archive

100 hours of Red Cross Volunteer work
-Office management, computer database organization, phone duty, etc.

4 Years of Varsity Swimming

Member of School Atmosphere Committee
-Helped create a video to send to New England Board of Accreditation to display information about our school
-Spread word about school ideals and beliefs in various ways

HOOKS:

I am of Hispanic descent.

I will not be applying for financial aid (Maybe not a hook)

Your state schools, Case Western, Lehigh, Southern Methodist, Umiami (FL)… and many others.

Lehigh and Miami as safeties? That’s very surprising to hear.

^ sorry. Typed too fast and I’ll take them back. On the other hand, don’t see why you can’t get in but to say safety is a stretch.

[HWS Computer Science Department](http://hws.edu/academics/compsci/curriculum.aspx)

Hobart and William Smith, New York, as a safety school, an LAC.

Can your family afford Purdue OOS? Definitely UConn.

Money is not an issue.

Purdue is definitely a safety. Perhaps could add Missouri UST also as a safety?

With a couple of good safeties, you can concentrate on picking match and reach schools. What are you looking for in a school - size, location, etc.?

Does Purdue require a student to apply TO the College of Eng’g??? or does a student just apply to the school?

You apply for your specific major. A friend’s D didn’t get into her first choice for engineering major.

Thankfully Purdue computer science is in the College of Science.

EDIT:
@sacchi: I am looking for a school that has a name for itself. and definitely not liberal arts. Size and location are not issues. I will look into Missouri, thanks!

Consider [San Jose State University](http://www.sjsu.edu) as a safety.

In the back yard of “Silicon Valley” computer companies, it may attract more recruiters to its career center than similarly selective schools elsewhere. As a student there, travel to interviews for internships and jobs for after graduation will be relatively convenient.

Out of state [students applying as freshmen in 2011 to SJSU](http://info.sjsu.edu/web-dbgen/narr/admission/rec-1199.html) needed a [CSU eligibility index/url of 3502 or higher, unless they applied to a major with a higher threshold (for the Computer Science major, the threshold was 3300; for the similar Software Engineering major, it was 2900). Full OOS price for CSUs, including SJSU, is less than at many other state universities, including UCs.

[url=http://www.ucsc.edu]University of California, Santa Cruz](GPA Calculator | CSU) is somewhat further away, but still within a day trip for “Silicon Valley” computer company recruiters. Its [admission profile](http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/campuses/santa-cruz/freshman-profile/index.html) suggests low match.

Thank you!

How about Virginia Tech (VA) ?
