@onthewestfence - I think she is looking for larger student body schools but I’ll most certainly have her look at your suggestions. My guess is she probably doesn’t even know much about them…i dont.
@onthewestfence - I don’t think the UC’s on her current list would be considered lower tier.
Sorry for not being more clear. Safeties to include in her list are UC Riverside and Merced. The Claremont Colleges are smaller that UCs but very prestigious LACs in SoCal. Best of luck.
Claremont Colleges function like Oxford Colleges, in that there’s one big university (the Claremonts) with different colleges all adjacent to one another, with their own personality and dorms, but all sharing some facilities. In shorthand*, HarveyMudd is the STEM college, Scripps is the Woman’s College, McKenna is the conservative/Economics/Government college, Pitzer is the liberal social justice/social sciences college, and Pomona is the “intellectual” college. There’s also a science research center and a graduate school. The total makes 7,000 students.
She probably doesn’t need to apply to Merced as she would likely qualify under the 9% rule.
- yes I know there's way more to each but I am trying to go for shorthand. Fiske Guide has a lot more detail. Also, The Claremont Colleges DO NOT IN ANY WAY resemble Oxford architecture!
I will second the Claremont Consortium Schools. My D and I fell in love when we visited. Each individual school is small, but the overall consortium is mid size. You are allowed to cross-register at any of the other colleges, you can actually major at one school while matriculating at another. These small LACs may not have the name recognition to the general public, but employers know of them, and they are doing the hiring. I guess I don’t have to sell you on the weather! Worth a visit, you are so close.
