Want target and safety schools for engineering or computer science major for 2016 admission

I’m a very confused parent. Here are my daughter’s stats:
SAT 2080(700 math 680 reading, 700 writing) ACT 32, UW GPA 3.82, Weighted 10-12 A-G GPA 4.21, extra- lots of leadership (speech and debate, class treasurer…) and community leadership service. We live in California and are worried

a private college counselor seems so negative. Going out of state is fine. Please help

For the UC’s, UCR/UCSC look like solid matches/low match schools. UCD/UCSB/UCI are good target schools. UCSD is a high Match along with Cal Poly SLO. For safeties, she might want to consider SDSU/CSUF/CSULB and Cal Poly Pomona. She is a qualified applicant and if costs are a concern, she has many good options in-state.

Get a new private college counselor.

With a 4.21 UCGPA, 2080 SAT and a stack of ECs, your daughter is very well qualified for all 9 UC. Assuming competent essays, she’ll probably get into 6 (not a reflection on her at all, CS is competitive and because there’s a subjective element, odds are a couple won’t pan out). She’ll likely sail into all 23 CSUs. CP SLO and SDSU have outstanding CS and engineering schools.

If your budget allows, and she’s interested in smaller private schools, Santa Clara, USD and LMU, perhaps Chapman or one of the Claremont colleges. These can be selective but, she’s a competitive candidate.
