Safety

Very concerned about the safety at UMD. Does anyone know firsthand about this issue? This is a common complaint when reading student reviews on other cites such as *****. Need feedback! A 29 year old man was recently arrested for a situation in Cumberland Dorm, where he entered an unlocked female students room according to school alerts.

It kinda depends on where you live. The campus is general safe during the day. There is nothing to worry about. North Campus is a bit safer during than night than route 1. I don’t care if you are a guy or a girl, do not walk alone along route 1 at night. I believe this is where most crimes take place. Honestly, outside of campus, I wouldn’t call college park a safe area (again, especially at night).

When I first heard of the incident you mentioned I was confused because the north campus dorms are usually cool. We have a swipe to get in (you can’t enter without it unless someone opens the door for you), and we need the swipe to use the elevators. We also have CA’s at the front desk at all times. So I don’t think people coming into the dorms is all that common.

If it eases your mind, I’ve yet to have a safety issue on campus.lol

Thanks for the response ConcreteRose. I appreciate the information.
