I believe there may have already been a thread about safety at NYU but I couldn't find it...I'm from Houston and want to move up north to NY for school. My parents' biggest problem with the school though is they think it's unsafe. Does anyone know where I can locate safety statistics or have any firsthand experiences? Thanks.

I think Houston is more unsafe.

yeah houston can be...thanks for the link

lol i was going to say houston was more unsafe too but i didnt feel like offending anyone else today

Saying Houston is unsafe definitely would not offend ME; quite frankly I think the only part of Houston worth going to is the Post Oak area (Galleria and whatnot). That's irrelevant to your question though. Sorry. Houston is dirty, and it's not that much fun. I love New York. If it's any consolation, I'd rather be mugged in New York than in Houston... okay I'm done now.

wow...Houston isn't THAT bad. i mean, it's not my favorite city but o well. I must say I do love New York more though.

Are you serious?!
Houston vs. NYC
lol
Isn't Houston like really really dirty and filled with first degree murderers?
I think NYC is much safer...although some places could be dangerous, around NYU seems to be fine.

Don't worry man, what the hell? take some risks...If you are accepted, go!

when I toured NYU they said it was located in the safest precinct in the city, and there's tons of campus security, so it's really not that bad.

I think Houston has a higher crime rate.

well that's reaffirming...one of the biggest hurdles for "selling" NYU to my parents is it's safety, but I suppose Rice in Houston would be less safe

yeah the thing about nyc is that htere are always ppl around till way late at night, so i always feel safe. like you can hang out until 3 outside a building and be completely fine.

also, if youre on the upper east side, theres literally a doorman every ten yards, so theres no way anything every goes down there.

Yeah the Village is pretty safe, but most of Manhattan is safe.Except for certain sections in upper manhattan(east or west harlem i forget, and parts of Washington Heights)but that's pretty far from NYU.So yeah,NYU is safe.

east. west is where columbia is, and was gentrified long ago...

not to be confused with land of fifth avenue and barneys and park. my hometown.
