SAGES and general education at Case Western Reserve University

Hi, I am a highschool rising senior looking at colleges. I want to get a science/engineering education grounded in the liberal arts so that I will have enough skills to be flexible in the future. Is the general education requirement, SAGES, at CWRU very intensive and good, or is it not good enough to provide a broad base for education. Thank you.

It isn’t like Columbia or Reed, if that’s what you’re asking. You can get a broad education here, but you have to construct it for yourself rather than relying on the stated requirements (especially the SAGES classes, which are topical rather than disciplinary). For example, you can see that the general-education requirements for engineering majors (which are these along with the general requirements for all bachelor’s degrees) aren’t very extensive or specific.

The good thing about Case is that is has the full fledged liberal arts college within the University…some of the other engineering schools are more engineering only oriented…the Western Reserve part of CWRU was a liberal arts college so you will have many opportunities for classes.
