I was initially drawn to apply to Saint Louis University because of its urban setting, merit aid, and decent academics. After reading some criticism about the school's student body, social setting, safety, and less than helpful administration, however, I am reconsidering my decision to go there. From the experience of CCer's, how accurate are those sites where students review their colleges? Can anyone give me some insight into Saint Louis University? Is it a good school to attend?

We are going to visit this week. Would love to hear this response.

Well it is the second most dangerous city in the country, and it was the first up until last year. Just saying...

We were just in St. Louis last weekend to visit WashU. We drove through the SLU campus. We weren't overly impressed with the surrounding areas. To be honest we weren't impressed with St. Louis at all. We like WashU a lot. The surrounding area up there isn't bad but SLU isn't good at all. One of my D's friends from HS lasted one semester at SLU before she came home. She said she didn't feel safe. After having driven around I see why.

If you stay on campus, you should be fine at SLU... Otherwise a lot of the city is dangerous. Getting better, but still by no means good.

My daughter graduated from SLU and loved it. The department of public safety is very visible on campus and she never felt afraid there.
I don't know how accurate the websites where students review their colleges are. Have you visited the campus yet? The campus is beautiful and the dorms have recently been redone. You might visit and see what you think.

If you ask me, the problem with a school like SLU is that there's a really good chance your state's flagship public would be a much better value.
