Same place as last year

Hey everyone. Well, today my Congressman's office called me at school (Villanova) that they have awarded me a nomination to Annapolis. At this point, everything is in the hands of the adcom down at USNA.

What I am worried about is the fact that at this time last year, I was in the same situation. I had all my application materials in, ACT/SAT scores, nomination from Congressman, outstanding PAE results, etc. My BGO and Congressman's office were pretty much assuring me that I was obtain an appointment; unfortunately I came to find out I did not get appointed for the c/o 2008.

This year, I went on to Villanova and re applied. Now, just like last year, I have all my app materials in, outstanding PAE results, nomination, etc. However, I did improve on my application over the year. I joined an inter-collegiate club sport at Villanova (hockey) and became an assistant captain this spring semester. I retook my ACT exam and scored a few points higher on each section; and I think most of all, I put all my heart into my personal statement.

My question is, now that I am at the same point I was last year, do you think it's alright to send a letter to my regional director to just tell her once more that I really want this and I'm n ot going to give up without a fight. I guess I am just scared b/c I don't want what happened last year to happen again. Thanks a lot!

Keep on trying.

I know of a current member of USNA'08 who didn't get in until the third try. Turned down the first year, appointed the second year, but incurred a fracture right before I-day and got DQed, was waitlisted the third year, and received the appointment 8 days before I-day.

Even Former President Jimmy Carter did not get in until the third try.

Keep the faith, let your BGO officer know how much you want this, and hopefully you have filled in the perceived gaps in your resume to make you more competitive.

As you read these forums, remember that many have multiple LOA. As they make their decisions, the declined offer creates an opening for a new appointment.

Good Luck in your quest.

Go for it !! I don't see any downside to writing your regional director and reinforcing your commitment to attend USNA.

Assuming your grades at Villanova are good, your improved ACT scores and team athletics experience should increase your chances of success.

Are you enjoying Villanova? How is the student life and dorms? Classes? Are you in ROTC?

hey everyone! thanks for the replies. I just got back from the Villanova basketball game against Kansas, which was INCREDIBLE (gotta love those upsets). Anyway, Villanova is a great place. I am doing ROTC and the first month or so is crazy but it calms down and everyone starts having a lot of fun. Student life is okay I guess, I am not too into drinking, and a lot of people here are; but there are always those who don't. On that note, there is a great balance here between academics and social life, you will not see people getting drunk sunday-thursday because it's all business during the week.

Classes are challenging and require a lot of you, but its always possible to get an A if you apply yourself. The professors are very approachable, as well.

Dorms, lol, are dorms. Where the freshman live, on south campus, there are a few buildings with really large rooms considering they are dorms. I was lucky enough to get a large room. What everyone really looks forward to is the apartments on campus that juniors live in. They were built only 4 years ago and they have a living room, dining room, seperate bed rooms, kitchen, bathroom -- it's your basic apartment. The best part is that they are on campus and the typical housing for juniors.
