SAMS at Carnegie Mellon 2019-2020 Discussion

I got the email from Diane but I have not received any emil and I checked the portal and nothing is on it.

I emailed Daine today as well. She told me that the admissions committee had submitted the recommendations for admit/deny/waitlist to the CMU pre-college board. Thereā€™s a processing time between SAMS submitting the decision to the pre-college department posting it on the portal. My guess is that we will get a decision wave tomorrow because Fridays seem to be their favorite day to release decisions.

@coconutfloat Yes talk about what you are interested about also. They also want to know about you and your interest. Try to talk about both in your essay.

@coconutfloat yes you should add your interests! for the pre-college essay prompt talk about why you chose this specific program and what makes you love math/science. depending on which SAMS prompt you chose (if i remember correctly i think there were two) i can give you tips:)

@elipham2 I dedicated a paragraph mentioning my interests and why I love science and tech in the ā€œWhat do you hope to gain from participating in the pre-college programā€ and I chose the 2nd prompt (the one that mentioned Andrew Carnegie and ā€œMy Heart is in the Workā€) where I answered all the prompt questions about how Iā€™ll help others, how participating will impact my goals, etc. But I didnā€™t go into full blown detail about my interests in that oneā€¦ I did mention some fun facts about me but it was brief. I mostly focused on answering the questions in the prompt

also does anybody know how to contact Diane? Iā€™ve been seeing her name a lot but I canā€™t find her email or contact info anywhere on the SAMS webpage

@coconutfloat sounds good. make sure to build a story with your essays too. they know youā€™re qualified and have a passion for math/science, but what caused that passion? what makes you stand out from the rest?
