San Fran State, UC Irvine!!

is it a better decision to go to SFSU over UCI? I get to study the major that i want to study(interior design) whereas UCI is undeclared art...the reason I want to go to UCI is bc its a more prestigious school(ranking, environment, campus life...)
I'm going to live on campus, so housing and college experience plays an important role. is SFSY really THAT bad? i heard the campus sucks and it's a commuter school..

I think I can help you. Grew up in San Francisco and can tell you not that most people who live in dorms are people who go home to the east bay and other areas on the weekend. I wouldn’t be too concern because there is a lot to do in the city. The school is on the boder with Daly City (Southwest section of city), there is a mall with movie theater (small maybe 4 or 6 screens) right next door. Parking is a nightmare but muni (mass transit) is super easy. I think you would have a lot of opportunities for jobs or interships.

UCI-my husband went there as a undergrad then on to Chicago for medical school. He was a commuter and said the school was super competive. No school spirit at all. You would need a car! You could probably get a part-time job but would need to drive to it. We worked at Knott’s Berry Farm while in college (I was at Long Beach State). A lot of college kids work at Disney Land.

Of the two schools UCI beats SFSU hands down for weather. San Francisco can be cold but SFSU does seem to have more sun than other areas, like the Richmond District where I grew up (near Golden Gate Bridge).

I hope this helps. PM me if you have any other questions.

If you qualify for substantial aid, then UCI could be cheaper. The UCs give much, much, much better aid.

But, for interior design, you might need to go to the other school.

As for a job…if you get work-study, you probably would get a campus job. If not, try to get a job at Irvine Spectrum…you could walk there.

UCI and the Irvine Spectrum are miles away from one another. It’s certainly possible to walk there, but as a day walk, not a daily commute. However, there are plenty of other strip malls, and business parks close to UCI.

oops, forgot the distance. Was thinking it was closer.

Anyway, there are places to work near the school.

UCI is the better choice by most measures. There’s not a lot of school spirit at UCI, but SFSU has no school spirit at all. UCI is also much more prestigious and is less of a commuter school than SFSU.

If you want to live on campus, I wouldn’t go to SFSU.
