My son is very excited about the prospect of attending SJSU in the fall to study Industrial Design as a freshman. His "state calculated GPA is a 3.0 and his latest SAT is an 1170 (570 math and 670 EBRW). I believe these numbers calculate to a 3555 eligibility index and exceed the required minimum EI of 2900. However, his major is impacted and it may require a higher EI. We are from California and I am unsure if that helps his prospects. Any information you have would be so appreciated!
Also, does anyone have information on the program? We visited the school and were so impressed with the classes and students we met. Do you know anything about the program?
Thank again!
Based on the last 3 years of EI thresholds for the Industrial Design major, he should have no problem getting an acceptance. Last year 2017 the EI threshold was 2900, the previous 2 years the EI threshold was 3200. In-state applicants do have an advantage but if you are in the local service area, he gets a 0.2 GPA bump.
Best of luck to your son but I have no inside information regarding the program.
0.2 GPA increase for being in the local area = 160 eligibility index points when calculating eligibility index as GPA * 800 + SATR + SATM. Note: while many CSUs have local area preference, they each may handle it differently.

that’s the EI by major for this year. With a 3555, he should have no trouble. Still, apply elsewhere as well because you never know… maybe SF State.
Thank you all! It’s great to get feedback from people with knowledge. We are in San Diego so I do not believe he will get the bump in GPA but are hopeful he will get in!
