Hey everyone, this is my first post so apologies if I post this in the wrong discussion board. As of right now, there are two options that I see for myself, either I can go to San Jose State University for 4 years or go to a California community college and attempt to transfer using the UC TAG program. My major I was admitted to in SJSU (but I would want to apply for in UC) is Mechanical Engineering. I am still a little conflicted, because I do want to be able to transfer to a UC, but it seems that only students from community college are attempting this. I am also wondering about the how difficult it would be to fulfill the requirements that UCs ask of transfer students, as the requirements for me are slightly higher since I want to be a mechanical engineering major. I am wondering if it is easy to transfer, or if it safer to just go to SJSU for 4 years? In addition, does the community college that you attend increase or decrease your chance of being admitted when you try to transfer to UCs? My last question is have you or anyone you know tried to transfer from San Jose State University to a UC, and were successful in transferring? What steps did they have to take to ensure that they could successfully transfer? I am aware that there is no TAG program for California community colleges, but I am curious if anyone has tried this and was actually successful. These are some of the questions that have come to mind as I am trying to decide between SJSU and community college, and if you all could give me some advice that would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to ask me clarifying questions if needed.
Check here: https://universityofcalifornia.edu/infocenter/transfers-major for all UC acceptance rates by major (they do favor CCCs over 4-years – though my counselors have told me that they don’t favor any SPECIFIC CCCs, even if it’s closer to their university – some CCCs have connections to universities, though, through programs like TAP for UCLA, e.g.). & Go on ASSIST and click on your CCC to find what pre-requisites you would need to transfer.
SJSU is a great school but it depends on what you’re looking for, like why do you want to transfer to a UC? Which UC(s)? Also, what do you mean by “there is no TAG program for California community colleges”?
