**Santa Clara early admission 2019**

Just emailed my regional admissions counselor about how SCU is my number one, I would be a great fit, etc. and asked why I wasn’t accepted and how I might be able to improve my app this time around. It appears to be a copy/paste response that they are sending out to every applicant who was deferred and reached out. He didn’t give me any tips or personal insight on my application, just recited the average stats of those accepted this fall and telling me “don’t lose hope”…
Likely going to withdraw my application altogether.

Accepted to Leavey School of Business!
GPA: 3.8 UW
ACT: 28
5 APs, 4 honors
I am so excited to have been accepted! Santa Clara is a school I fell in love with instantly!

@lico15‌ That sucks, I’m sorry. I’d say the best thing you can do right now is just try your best to stay involved and do well this semester so that you have a better shot RD. Regarding calling admissions, I’d steer clear of that. But DO keep in touch with admissions (via email) to let them know that Santa Clara is still your first choice (even if it’s not), etc. Good luck!

Does anyone have financial aid information yet? When is that supposed to come out?

What are those average stats? Thanks.

Accepted to Arts & Sciences!!! 3.96 GPA UW and 33 ACT. If I don’t have any notification of scholarships, does that mean I didn’t get one, or have not all the notifications come yet?

Here’s what my rep sent me in response:

Thanks for reaching out. Unfortunately, you are not the only surprised student out there. We received another record number of applicants seeking admission into our business school. With apps up over six percent, the holistic evaluation did concentrate on curricula, gpa, test scores and overall match for the early pool. You did well but here is what we saw. Incoming admitted average unweighted gpa was 3.82, SAT average was around 1350-1400, and the ACT average was 31-32. Hope this helps you understand how challenging it has become to gain admission to SCU. However, dont give up. We want to see with overall applicants to SCU. Hope this helps.

I’m a SoCal resident who received my acceptance on Monday. 3.9 UW and 2100 SAT, IB Diploma Candidate, strong ECs. I didn’t get any notification of scholarships but I see that people here are posting that they’ve received scholarships. Are scholarship notifications still coming in?

Like… What the heck else do they want?

SCU was my top choice, and that deferral really killed me.

@bitterascouldbe‌ You’re an outstanding candidate. Many great schools … honestly, much higher caliber schools than Santa Clara … will want you. Do not let this keep you down. This is Santa Clara’s loss. Truly. Have you heard from other schools? I’m basically in the same boat you are, but have heard back from more selective schools than Santa Clara and been admitted. I was surprised and really sad when SCU deferred me, but I’ve since moved on. You should too. You deserve better. It will work out. Just curious … why was SCU your top choice? You can do a lot better!!!

@bitterascouldbe One more thing. SCU may be shooting themselves in the foot deferring people like you. Unfortunately, they admit a lot of people for whom SCU is a safety. Since most of these students end up going elsewhere, SCU has a very low yield (mid-teens). At the same time they lose a lot of deferred students who would have loved to go to Santa Clara … but because after the SCU deferral, many get into higher-rated schools, the candidates move on and SCU loses them altogether. The whole process is difficult.

@bitterascouldbe I think there are a huge number of Stanford and Southern Cal applicants that apply to Santa Clara as a safety school. Also, If you look on this thread, you will see that many of the students admitted had taken a large number of AP/IB classes (my son’s GPA was also not great, but he went to a very tough school and passed 13 AP exams with "5"s on all the technical ones.) Your lack of these classes may have hurt you, as well as your class standing. Tough schools don’t help their students by class rankings (my son’s school does not release class standings). As you know, you could have gone to an easier school and finished with a much better GPA.

The whole admissions process is very hard to understand. My son had one classmate who had a 2400 SAT, a ton of passed AP classes, a very high GPA, and was a published author. She was turned down by Columbia! Another with similar stats got deferred by Harvey Mudd. One kid got into Harvard, another with similar stats was deferred. Same thing with Princeton and Brown. Stanford only took one, when three got in last year.

Anyway good luck to you!

Thanks @Beardown

Woah! Surprised to see so many people with better stats than me not get in! Good luck to you all!

What worked in my favor: Non impacted major, excellent essay that truly talked about my high school experience and painted a clear picture of me, significant achievements in the EC’s I was a part of (President of 3 clubs, volunteering, sports, math tutor), and great letters of recommendations.
I honestly feel so grateful right now!

do you guys know what’s happening with scholarships? on ecampus in the award letters tab, the award letter date says yesterday’s date, but i can’t click on the PDF icon and it says my award letter is not available?

Admissions posted about an hour ago saying how ecampus was having technical difficulties. Currently, nobody can log on to their ecampus. Hopefully the site will be up and running because SCU just sent me an e-mail saying my financial “award” had been posted. Congrats to those who got in, and like everyone else, I am shocked to see the stats on some deferred and rejected!..Not fair

Financial aid is posted. Sucks, I barely got any. I guess I won’t be seeing any of you folks there…

I got a letter telling me that I was a Johnson Scholars Semifinalist but then my online award letter just says that I got the Dean’s scholarship. Does this mean that if I don’t get the Johnson scholarship I only get a couple thousand a year?
