Santa Clara RD 2023

all financial aid decisions should have been released

D was accepted in engineering. First choice school. Wait listed LMU and UW. Physics department scholarship at St Mary’s. Nothing but a small loan at Santa Clara. In shock. We don’t qualify for need based but sure can’t afford cash of 71k per year. Expected at least 20k per year scholarship, which seems normal at other private schools. Almost worst than just being rejected to be accepted but can’t afford to go. To others who were wait listed or denied, seems very random. The highs and lows of admission. Went from jubilation yesterday to despair today.

Accepted! (But unfortunately the scholarship I received is most likely not enough for me to afford it)

Major: Computer Science and Engineering
GPA: 3.84 UW / 4.18 W
SAT I: 1480 (730 RW, 750 M, only took it once)
SAT II: Math 2 (570), Physics (530)

Also accepted: Northeastern, Rochester Institute of Technology, and University of Connecticut

(If anyone wants to know my extracurriculars, etc. just let me know)

Accepted Science and Engineering. 4.0UW/4.5W SAT 1540. Dean’s scholarship $8,100. NOPE. Other scholarships at equal or better schools ranging from $25-$37K per year, so

Accepted!

Also don’t think I can afford it, but thankfully I received a 4 year Army ROTC scholarship that pays full tuition. Now if only my parents would be on board with ROTC

Major: Electrical Engineering
GPA: 3.71 UW
SAT I: 1450 (700 RW, 750 M)
SAT II: N/A

Haven’t heard back from many of my other schools, waitlisted at UW and Rensselaer, rejected from ND EA

Got waitlisted into College of Engineering- Computer Science and Engineering
3.5 weighted
4.01 unweighted
1280 SAT
I had really good extracurriculars, i.e. drum captain of my school’s drumline, summer computer science program, made nationals for virtual enterprise, etc.
I think I had really good letters of recommendations and a good essay. (basically I wrote about how the video game, rock band, inspired me to audition for my school’s band and drumline.
I surprised some of the people here got denied or waitlisted with higher stats and stellar ec’s than I do, in fact I’m surprised how I got waitlisted with a 1280 SAT for one of the hardest majors to get into.

If I do get accepted, I might not attend this school because people who are on waitlists are highly unlikely to get aid from the school such as scholarships

Just wondering, but to those who were also accepted, have you received your physical acceptance letter in the mail yet?

@cjjl128 we have not received anything in the mail.

DS deferred EA and then rejected. Same thing happened to DD in class 2021 with much different stats. Both kids showed good level of demonstrated interest as well. I think for our next kid we will take a pass on applying to Santa Clara since I really didn’t care for the zinger they put in there rejection letter. I agree with previous poster “why kick the kids when already down” Anyhow Congratulations to all the wonderful kids who were accepted.

@cjjl128 I received my admission packet in the mail yesterday— northern Virginia

How much scholarship is considered generous for SCU?

^ @uscplsaccpetme any. SCU is not known as being generous.

My daughter is accepted into the business school. We really loved SCU. Does anyone know how much scholarship is considered generous ?She received scholarship that covers most of her room and board but we still have to pay Tuition for this year. Anyone knows if they give scholarship the following years if she continues to keep her grades up?
Thanks in advance.

Accepted CAS
6.8k incentive, waiting on scholarship offer from dance department

Biology and Dance double major, made that very clear to AO
4.04W (a little low, but from a competitive private HS in the area and my school has a good relationship with SCU)
32 ACT
dance company, dance teacher, lots of dance related activities, environment related volunteer work, hospital volunteer, won county math comp for statistics

I bet I had a lot of help from the theatre & dance department, and the department chair knew my studio’s artistic director (didn’t know that until after my audition). I do believe I am a strong student and a good fit for SCU, but admissions this year seems like a crapshoot.

My daughter was accepted EA into business. Double major dance. Also still waiting for dance scholarship. Keep us posted if you hear.

My twin daughters were excepted into computer science at SCU but the merit scholarship was only $6,000 when we were expecting $26,000! They will not be attending because even though we do not qualify for financial aid we can not afford to pay $130,000 a year for two kids. Crazy that they thought we would!

SCU traditionally has never been generous with merit, except for really high stats kids. Their traditional base is pretty wealthy private school kids. With their 1 billion dollar endowment seek, maybe they will be more generous in the future.

@b4four got a call this afternoon from David Popalisky with scholarship offer

does anyone know how to appeal their decision?

S got accepted to Business School but we still have not heard about any aid
3.86 UW gpa
4.16 W gpa
1420 SAT
anyone else in the same boat?
