Hello!
Here is another thread "AvsB".
I'm going to attend to Film program this Fall. It's difficult to me to make the right choice just because I live in Russia. It's very hard to get any information when you don't know English enough and when you can't visit schools.
So I want you to help me.
What are the pros and cons of this two schools? In order to transfer for junior year to four-year institution like USC, UCLA, Chapman. What are the strong sides of their programs? Both production and film studies.
Thank you!

RobertS,
I’m not an expert in film programs of Community Colleges in SoCal but I live here and I can add a little knowledge to hopefully help.

Santa Monica has the highest regarded 2 year program in film of CC’s in Southern California (and maybe the whole U.S.??). Santa Monica also has a good record of transfers into UCLA and to some extent USC. They are also well placed for transfer to Loyola Marymount’s film school which should also be on your list of 4 year colleges with well regarded film schools. I don’t know if SMCC has any relationship with Chapman.

Santa Barbara City has a strong relationship with UC Santa Barbara but weaker with the other 4 year schools on your list.

Another 2 year should look at is Moorpark Community College. VERY sleepy community but from what I hear they offer a very strong 2 year program in film with a transfer relationship with UCLA.

Like I said, I’m not an expert but I would think Santa Monica would be your best bet.

Best,
Wheaty

Wheaty, thank you for your reply!

RobertS,
A note of caution, it is VERY difficult to transfer into UCLA and USC film schools. Not impossible but very tough. Here’s a link from UCLA (scroll all the way to the bottom) showing 541 transfer applicants and 15 admitted students for Fall of 2009:

[Profile of Admitted Transfer Students by Major, Fall 2009 - UCLA Undergraduate Admissions](http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/Adm_tr/Tr_Prof09_mjr.htm#AA)

USC has very similar numbers.

Best,
Wheaty

Anybody else?
