Is there any sort of relationship between ERP companies like SAP and Engineering (IEOR) ?

Possibly, but CS is probably more pertinent.

Actually, I would argue that IEOR (especially the IE part) is more closely aligned to ERP software like SAP than CS is.

The truth is, ERP is more like IT work, and IT really doesn't have that much to do with computer science. That's because you're not designing software from the ground-up. Rather, it's really about configuring and designing a predesigned and prepackaged piece of software to fit the needs of a particular organization. That means that you have to actually understand what the organization needs (and, perhaps surprisingly, many organizations don't know what they really need). In other words, as a SAP consultant, you would spend a lot of defining what the organization's operational needs actually are, and then map those definitions into SAP. This is more akin to IEOR work than CS work.

my school has three tracks in IE.
1) manufacturing
2) service sector
3) IT sector

number 2 is more OR oriented. But I think no. 3 has to do with stuff similar to SAP.

hey sakky,

how is the SAP industry? the scope?
