Opinions or comments on this school for theatre? No MT there it seems but they offer MT classes . …someone brought this school up to my D but we’ve never considered it .
We visited and did not apply because it was too “quaint New Englandish” for my daughter. Great facilities.
I have to smile at the"quaint New Englandish" comment about Sarah Lawrence. Yes, it is a small liberal arts college. However, it is located in Bronxville, NY (which is not in New England) and is about 17 miles from downtown NYC! Truly not in the middle of nowhere.
D has a friend there in the theatre department who loves it! Friend always wanted to attend there for theatre, never even applied anywhere else.
I went there. Of course a million years ago, but you can essentially do whatever you want there and create your own program, get credit for doing internships, get credit for creating your own show or any other project of your choosing, etc, etc. The focus is on following your passion. And no they don’t have a specific MT degree, but there is a lot of flexibility in dance, acting, music. Lots of performers have come out of there, there is quite a list of famous alum. It is truly a wonderful place and amazing learning environment, but I could not convince my MT kid to apply there because she really wanted a more traditional type of program. It is a half hour train ride to Grand Central Station, trains leave every half hour. A good friend of mine went there when I did and has been a steadily working actress, much of it MT including several stints on Broadway, ever since.
Sarah Lawrence is one of the most expensive schools in the country and meets about 76% of need on average. With room and board it is even more expensive than NYU.
My D applied to Sarah Lawrence this year as it seemed to have so much going for it. The more we looked into it - the better it seemed. Tons of flexibility in the programs and a possibly great fit for self motivated students. Yes it is expensive but they seem very generous with FA.
