I'm going to appear for sat in January and in going to prepare from barrons (is that the right choice?). Barrons has three lists concerning vocabulary:
1. Sat high frequency word list.
2. The sat high prospects word list.
3. The 3500 basic word list.

Obviously I'm not going to do the third one but I'm confused about the first two. Should I do both or one of them? The first list gives all the words which have most often appeared on sat and the second one has got the 'key' words which could appear. They're not as common as the high frequency words though. The first list has got 300 words and the second has got 150... Which list should I do? I'm going for the first one only. Will it be enough? Or do I need more? Any advise will be greatly appreciated!

It will not be enough to just do the first list. Do the first and second list well and read the third list a few times and learn words you have never seen before so you have a general idea as to what they mean. On the sa more often than not all the answer choices are very different and even having a general idea of what a word means can help you get the right answer.

Awh sad! I just can’t get myself to cram all the words.

Anybody else?

The Barron’s word lists do have all the necessary words but they are scattered across the three lists and we often have to go through many many useless words. deathnexus is right. Only doing all the lists can help you. In my opinion, neither of their lists on its own is good. The Princeton Review Word Smart I on the other hand is a 823 word book that comprises of ALL the essential words in one place and no unnecessary words. I HIGHLY recommend you learn from this book and not from Barron’s. It was all I did for my 800. Plus, the Barron’s tests are generated and very hard. All they do is discourage. Do the college board blue book.

Barrons always has bad reviews. okay I’ll do the words from pr… Thank you!

How about sparknotes? Would they help?

Here in Pakistan, people mostly use sparknotes for Writing. I have no idea, thus, if it is any good for reading but others might be able to give you valuable insight into this point. I personally didn’t study Writing from anywhere.

I’m from Pakistan too! I don’t specifically study for writing either but its this horrid critical reading questions in afraid of.

I kind of guessed that you were Pakistani That is why I brought it up in my previous reply. You should be on Pakistan’s CC page more. As for reading, optimism is the key to success. If you are going to be like: ‘Oh no, reading again -.-’ you are going to get into a lot of trouble. Face the section head on and with confidence and no fear. That WILL improve your score.

Oh
You’ve got a good point there, but I’m like this these days because I’m sick. Hopefully I’ll start to study on Monday after I get my sat subject scores. :/

Anybody else? Any ideas where I should practice my vocabulary from?
