Discussion for Math Level 2 in January!
@sey1100 what materials are using to prepare for the Math.
@michealcks26 I am using Barron’s, PR and Kaplan. I also found McGraw Hill online and I just use it for the practice tests.
BTW. I’m writing Math level 2 for the second time because I wasn’t happy with my first score.
@michaelcks26 For me, I’ll be using Barron’s. But right now, since I never even took Pre-Calculus because the earliest I can take it is next semester, I’m using this “1,001 Pre-Calculus Practice Problems for Dummies” workbook to learn Pre-Calculus by myself.
That workbook seems like a very useful book for self-teaching Pre-Cal. When I looked at the Barron’s book at first, I only understood the first two chapters then it was gibberish! But I’m passed that and things are starting to make complete sense.
I’m afraid of wordy questions. Really annoying
Can anyone explain how to do the questions asking to identify whether the function is odd or even?
@commonapplicant If the function is symmetric across the y-axis, then the function is even. (if f(x) = f(–x) for all values, like the cosine graph) If the function is symmetric about the origin (like a sine graph) then the function is odd.
This explains it more clearly: http://www.purplemath.com/modules/fcnnot3.htm
If you have example questions you need help with, PM me!
@VaporeonKid Thanks! When you get these types of questions, do you rough sketch all the functions? Or plot them all on your GDC?
@commonapplicant I haven’t actually taken the Subject Test– just encountered similar problems in my math classes! I suggest plotting them on your GDC if you have enough time, but if you’re in a rush then I would just sketch out the graph roughly or estimate using some quick tricks (if f(x)=f(–x) then it’s definitely even, that sort of stuff)!
@commonapplicant You can check out Functions in PR. It explained stuff really clearly there. Pg. 244 is about Symmetry in Function (Odd and Even functions).
Does anyone know how many questions there might be on vectors, statistics, and probability, and how hard those would be?
I’ve only covered standard deviation, normal distribution, and mean/median/mode in statistics so far (so no quartiles yet), and I haven’t covered vectors and probability yet. I’ve got everything in Pre-Calculus down though, so I’m definitely prepared for the majority of questions on the test.
@sey1100 what was your first score? What kind of questions did you encounter on the test? Share any mistakes from the experiences you had on the test.
Can anyone help me get the actual tests that are in the college board’s book? 5 days left and i can’t get the book from amazon. I really want to know how the real questions are. I just could obtain the barron’s.
Go to the SAT community on Reddit and the PDF of the full CB SAT Subject Test book should be in the sidebar on the right side. It has 1 of the 2 official released Math Level 2 exams (the other is in the Math L1/2 Subject Test book which I don’t have a PDF of).
@michealcks26 The first time I took the test I got 730. I skipped around 6 questions (mainly because I was running out of time to attempt them). I honestly don’t remember the types of quetions that were on the test. Maybe you can check out other threads here!
The SAT is tomorrow. Good luck everyone!
Woahh, you scared me a bit there. I immediately went back to college board to check the dates, because I thought I got the date wrong. Anyways, does anyone know how well the Barron’s booklet prepares you for the actual test? This is the only practice guide that I have to rely on, and now I’m kind of worried that there’s a chance that it might be off topic or unhelpful. Is it’s content relevant to this test? And are it’s practice tests similar to the actual ones?
Thanks! By the way, what’s the average raw score you can get to score an 800 on this test?
I just wrote the test!! It was pretty easy. I wouldn’t be surprised if the curve was harsher than the usual.
How was the test guys I think this was the same paper as june 16
