SAT Administration

I am currently preparing for October SSAT and I have read on this forum that the actual SAT builds one’s stamina and aids in instilling comfort for the SSAT. Should I register to take the SAT?

I am assuming you are in middle school… I wouldn’t register for the actual SAT unless you plan to use it for CTY or DUKE TIP or something like that. Otherwise, I suggest practicing with the official sample SSATs. If you need more than that, and feel you need to increase stamina, you can take published practice SATs under simulated conditions.

That is coming from those who had their kids take the SAT in 7th or 8th for another reason (usually a talent search). I don’t think people generally recommend taking SAT as SSAT practice - it is more of a side benefit if you are taking SAT anyway.

Duke TIP has moved away from administering SAT in 7th/8th grade talent searches. They now administer PSAT instead.

@GoatMama interesting about TIP. There are so many more tests. I looked at CTY and they still list SAT/ACT for 7th & 8th, though they’ve added PSAT 8/9 for 5th & 6th grade.

I’m so sorry, I gave wrong information! The do PSAT for 5th/6th grade (it used to be the EXPLORE test when GK1 was in the program). They still do SAT/ACT for 7th/8th grade. I am forgetting what grade GK2 is in!! X_X

Thank you all for your assistance
