SAT Biggest Improvement Stories

true enough, but most SAT-takers are past the developmental opportunity of being a reader. But, yes, definitely, kids who are readers are likely be more competent at the critical reading part of the SAT. Wouldn’t know about my kid since it feels like she’s always been too inundated to read (although, that said, having been accepted ED, I see her going to bed, nightly, with a free reading book in hand.

I got a 178 on the psat my sophomore year a 192 my junior year and on my last fully proctored “blue book” SAT test I got a 2280.
From sophomore to junior year the only thing I did …was age. For my junior [so far] all I have been doing is continuously retaking different exams. As time passes you get used to the different types of question. Doing practice tests often helps A LOT

203 sophomore year PSAT to a 2360 junior year SAT.
2-3 months of prep. A lot of what I did to prepare for the test is covered in my CR guide.

Hi everyone,

So, here’s my story. 9th grade, I took a SAT prep class, started with a 1530. Only did prep classes and took the real SAT after a little while, and got 1980. Self studied = 2100. Self-studied again = 2210. Prep classes don’t help if you don’t study by yourself.

I used mainly real tests, from the blue book, along with practice tests from the SAT prep place. (the SAT prep place’s tests were sometimes very inaccurate)

Sophomore Year PSAT: 204
Junior Year PSAT: 223
Junior Year SAT: 2250
Senior Year SAT: 2360 (superscored 2370)
Junior Year of College (ah, the joys of working in the test prep industry): 2320

Overall: Superscored 2400.

Prep: I think I did part of a practice test in the Kaplan PSAT book before my junior year PSAT, and I took a town-run SAT prep class before my junior year. After my junior year test, I got some essay tips from my English teacher (I’d previously scored a 7) and managed to get a 12 on the essay on my senior year test (I scored an 8 when I took the test again this past October… not enough “real” pressure to do well, lol).
