SAT Biology E/M Difficulty Level

Hi,
I need to seek advice regarding the difficulty level of the actual SAT Biology test. Right now, I’m using the Peterson’s Review guide book to study, and some of the questions are quite difficult. They ask questions which nitpick at very fine details which I’ve never come across before. If you’ve had experience with the SAT Bio test can you help me out and tell me if it’s going to be extremely tough? Do I need to know details such as the number of base pairs in a typical bacterium?

My son, who took bio-m last year, said that the Barron’s and Kaplan’s books were most useful to him. In his opinion, bio-ecology is the easier test (to prepare for), as the bio-e questions are much less nit-picky than the ones for bio-m. He says you would not need to know the number of base pairs, but rather foundational facts, like that bacteria have a circular chromosome. He would definitely suggest studying and taking the bio-e test over bio-m.

Very helpful info, thank you.

I took the physics and chemistry subject tests and they also have weird questions like that. I found when I took my actual test the weird questions were actually not that hard. I think you’ll be fine as long as you’re good at the other types of questions.
