The famous filmmaker had a tendency -of changing- his recollections, perhaps out of boredom at having to tell interviewers the same story over and over.

I know that the -of changing- portion is wrong, and should be replaced with -for changing-, but can you tell me a general rule with learning how to use prepositions?

it could also be: "had a tendency to change..."

can you put all your questions in one thread, please?
you already have three!!!

sure i'll do that for my next questions.

But what are the rules for prepositions

I'm not sure really, they just come naturally. I know something is wrong if the sentence doesn't sound right.

you could check in the blue book for that or on the CB website; it reviews all the grammar.

it's not for changing, it's "to change"

i said that already
