Hi,
My question is, in The Official SAT Study Guide Second Edition for Practice Test 6 Section 9 #9, what is the justification for why the answer to it is A. I could not find any indication of this in the passage and the explanation on Collegeboard(Choice (D) is correct. Douglass decision to reject The Brotherhood as the name of the newspaper because it would imply "the exclusion of the sisterhood" shoes his awareness that the abolitionist and womens rights movements shared similar goals) is unclear because I could find no text support.

Thank you in advance for all those that take the time to answer my question.

Yes, the answer is D, “[Douglass was] a reformer who recognized the similarity among the goals of different causes.” Looking into lines 9-14, you can see the passage reads, “He called it Frederick Douglass’ Paper, and underneath the title were the words ‘All Rights for All!’” This implies that Douglass knows the final goal for both the abolitionist movement for blacks AND the women’s rights movement was “all rights for all.” In other words, the goals of the different causes are similar/the same.

The answer isn’t A because he didn’t really have to persuade anyone. It was his own newspaper name he was choosing, and the idea of “The Brotherhood” as a newspaper name was simply a proposal that Douglass didn’t like.
Not B because it’s not that Douglass is more committed to women’s rights; he views both as equally important and simply believes women’s rights should not be excluded.
Not C because there’s no mention of ridicule anywhere in lines 9-14.
Not E because nothing is mentioned about “successes of the women’s rights movement” as a reason for Douglass to change the newspaper name in 9-14.
