SAT critical reading

im asian and for the past year ive been working on raising my math and writing scores since they are the easiest to practice but the critical reading is killing me. I always hear everyone say all the answers are in the text but...i have trouble finding those. Also what do i do if i completely dont understand a passage?? sometimes im in those situations and i panic. the vocab im not too hot on either but i can always memorize words for those. i just need help on tackling the passages. short passages i dont worry about too much but the long ones are the killers. ESPECIALLY the double long passages. helppp! im trying to get a 800 on my math and around 700s on my writing for the March SAT and my goal is to at least raise my critical reading to the 650s or higher by the June SAT.

What is it now?

You mention you’re Asian, but you don’t say Asian-American. Since it would be an irrelevant comment otherwise, can I assume that English isn’t your first language? You might get cut some slack for CR because of it, but if you’re looking at colleges that match up to your 800 math, you’ll need that CR at least as high as you’re aiming.

You need to do a lot of reading, and I assume you already have the Blue Book? Maybe another prep book, too. You need to focus a lot on vocabulary and common Latin/Greek roots. For passages, you have to settle down and learn to read and analyze them. Think of it as a scientific exercise. For double passages, compare the views and facts expressed in each one with the other as you’re reading them. Underline statements that seem important/contradictory, if that helps.

There’s good advice on these forums, you’re bound to get a lot. Good luck.

my november CR score was 550 : / and im asian-american, sorry i didnt clarify that. i have the BB and Princeton 11 practice tests book. thanks, il continue to look around on other forums to see if i can find something.
