Are there any resources/tips/strategies that can help with the Critical Reading section? What are some things I could do in order to improve my chances of getting a 700+ in Critical Reading?

Buy/borrow the Princeton Review Book. Or Kaplan will do in a crunch.

Learn how to test efficiently. Answer the questions you can answer without reading much, such as the vocabulary and “what does this word mean in context” passage questions.

Read, read, read. Learn how to deduce meaning from context alone. This is incredibly important! (and if you come across a word you don’t know, look it up a.s.a.p.- I never thought I’d need to know the meaning of the term “remuneration” until I saw it on the test, and luckily I’d looked it up when I came across it in a magazine.)

If you don’t get context, read those special books chock full of SAT words. I recommend “Tooth and Nail” or “Confessions of a Word Nerd.”

Answer the question asked.

You really need to learn to focus! I boosted my writing section multiple choice score from a 680 to a 770 just by really paying attention. The same thing applies here. FOCUS FOCUS FOCUS!

On breaks, move around. Jump up and down, drink water. Don’t eat during the break if you know it makes you drowsy!

Bring a watch so you can track time and pace yourself. Train youself to read faster using practice tests at home with that watch.

Underline important facts in the passage. Make sure that everytime you answer a question, you can directly prove it with something in the passage. I found it helpful to write the number of the question proved by something in the text next to it so I could be sure that I’d get it right. Try this. It works and it keeps you from getting sloppy.

LEARN SUFFIXES AND PREFIXES! If you know enough roots as well, you’ll be able to estimate the meaning of words without memorizing huge, ridiculous lists of vocab.
Good luck!
