SAT Critical Reading

I've done 32/33 of PR's Critical Reading sets and i keep getting a consistent, average score. I understand my mistakes later but I still get the same score. I probably don't understand how to answer the types of questions I miss. Was the PR practice PSAT test at the end of 11 Practice SATs reliable? I got a COMPLETELY different CR score in that test than the SATs (I know I found the passages to be more interesting, but I don't think it really played a role). Passage reading is my only difficulty in CR. I really don't want to waste anymore of my practice tests. Can you guys tell me what I should do from now on and provide me with strategies to solve the following CR style questions:

The questions posed in lines (...) demonstrate the author's interest in...

The phrase "..." can be best understood to mean...

The author uses (insert noun here) for what purpose...

And lastly, any key tips on how to make inferences?

Thanks,

Critical reading, I’m afraid to say, is a lot more dependent on natural ability and intuition than the other sections. The best advice I could give to you (although it really isn’t advice) is taking the AP English test/practice multiple choice AP quetions. They’re a hell of a lot harder than SAT critical reading questions, and really helped boost my confidence on the SAT.
