So the March SAT scores came out today and unfortunately I did not get my target score of 2250 (missed by 60 pts). There are two more test dates left and I have to work out when I’m taking it. I also have to take SAT2s. The first date is May 2 and the next is June 6th. The problem occurs because of the AP exams starting March 4th. I’ll be taking 6 in total so i have to do some major studying throughout this month. I definitely dont want to take the SAT in May because that requires lots of time for the practice tests. If take my SAT 2s (Physics and Math II) in May, that might cut into studying time since Math II isnt really part of any curriculum (Physics is similar to the AP class, I just need to take the practice tests to know the format). The I would to SAT in June. Should I got that route or save SAT 2s for senior year?
What do you guys think?
You can take both the SAT and the SAT2s at the very beginning of your senior year if you really want to focus on your AP tests! It doesn’t make a difference to the universities when you take it as long as it meets their deadlines. Plus, if you are dedicated enough, you can use your summer to do some regular studying leading up to the tests to give yourself an edge.
I would take the SAT 2s at the end of your current/junior year in the classes you are in now – the material will be fresher than if you have to recall it next year and should not require much studying or conflict with your AP studying. That’s what I did. It will also take the pressure off of senior year and free you to just focus on the SATs next year.
Agree with @cttwenty15. Focus on APs, grades and SAT 2s if they are in classes that you are taking now as a junior and spend the summer working on essays and preparing to take SAT again in October. My daughter took SAT 2 Bio at the end of 9th grade and SAT 2 Chem at the end of 10th grade when she was already studying for those classes and it made it much easier because the material was fresh and it did not really require much extra studying. SAT is not based on curriculum so you could spend the summer learning vocab and doing practice tests and then take it in October which is still enough time to submit for ED.
