Hey guys, how many examples do you usually use in your SAT essays (if at all)? I used to use the intro-2/3 examples-conclusion format, but some friends today have been telling me that their SAT prep academy recommends using one example for each essay and really elaborating on it. After they read through my essays using the first format, they told me that my examples were generally lacking in both detail and depth, which prompted me to try the latter style. I think the in-depth and analysis part has definitely improved a bit with that, but my instinctive feeling still is that it's better to have two or three examples to support the thesis. What do you CCers usually do with your essays?

I used 2 in October and got a 10.

It depends how well you can explain your examples. On the collegeboard website they have essays with one example and a score of 6.

I’ve used 3 examples to get a 10, and a 12 (Jan. and March respectively) but also have gotten a 10 using 2 examples but going a little bit more in depth (in Oct.).

I don’t think it matters much how many examples you have, it’s just how persuasive they are and how well they relate to your prompt.
