SAT essay prep

Hi there! I'm planning to take the SAT in October, and I'm having a bit of trouble with my essay. I don't know what are good examples to use. So, can you tell me what are the examples you had prepared? Thanks! :D

AshOfficial: I don’t like going in with prepared examples. The problem is that every once in a while, the SAT will throw you a question that doesn’t let you use your examples. For example, one test had the prompt:

Should current society be judged by its lowest forms of culture?

Students who went in expecting to use Martin Luther King Jr., The Great Gatsby or World War II or (you know who you are) did’t do well.

My advice is to pick three general fields you know well, such as sports or biology or 20th century history or social dynamics. Then practice with actual essay prompts (somewhere on this site is a list of nearly 100 actual SAT essay prompts). Then, where you’re having trouble thinking of an example, instead of asking “what could I use?” which is too big and open to work well, ask yourself, “what from biology fits this?” or “what from sports proves this?”

The ability to think of examples is a muscle you can build quickly with practice. So find that list and print it out. Then cut out the essay prompts and put them in a bowl. Once a day, pick one out and take 6 minutes to think of examples and write an outline.

You’ll improve quickly, and then you’ll have the ability to answer any essay question.

Best,
