In the essay, I normally don't chose one side to support but give an example from each side of the argument and then an account from my own personal experiences. In my first SAT attempt I got 10/12 for doing this. If I were to solely support one side of the argument does this help me score go up. (Silver turtles guide says to chose one side)

hello! well, if you don’t choose one side, then you have to elaborate CLEARLY on why one approach has its pros and cons.

it’s normally easier and better to just pick one side and give at least two examples. it’s also better if the examples are from literature or history. i’m not saying personal examples are bad, because i’ve seen many essays with personal examples that got a 12, but if you can think of examples from literature or history, why not use them?

just because you choose one side doesn’t mean that your scores will go up. there is no preference for you position on an issue. it’s just that when you choose on side, you can elaborate further and more clearly on those limited 2 pages, thus giving you a higher score. but if you can clearly elaborate by taking a neutral position, you can do so.

hope i’ve helped.
