SAT I WRITING SCORES reported for Classes of 2010

I know this is an interest area for many of us. I've found a number of colleges reporting on the class of 2010 so far. Many, many more only report the conventional CR & M, or the combined totals, without mention of Writing statistics. A few, like Richmond, report Writing score ranges, which I have not tried to report below.

Please note the population covered (some I guessed), as the stats for admitted vs enrolled could be very different....usually admitted numbers are higher. Reed is the only college I've found that has reported SAT I W scores in the 3 statistical formats I've used below: mid 50%, mean, & median.

Note that there is at least one discrepancy in the list....I've found 2 different SAT Writing averages for Vassar's class of 2010.

Also, please feel free to post new colleges writing scores to the list as you discover them. As more appear, I will add to my spreadsheet & repost periodically, assuming this thread becomes interesting.

here goes:

btw, looks like the changes for the 06-07 Common Data Set (due out later this fall from colleges that publish them) include addition of fields for SAT Writing:
http://www.commondataset.org/docs/CDS%202006-2007_Changes.doc

one more

Johns Hopkins admitted 650-740 mid 50% http://apply.jhu.edu/facts/facts.html

Thanks very much.

PC,

Thanks for posting. I have noticed that the schools are reporting the SAT writing score but not the essay subscore average or range. The Common Data Set includes a spot to enter that information. However, it appears that they do not have a place to enter that information for the optional writing section of the ACT.

An additional note on the ACT. The CDS does not appear to include a place to report the "Science" score. They have places for Composite, Math, English and Writing, no Science or Essay.

I find the oversight to be a bit odd because almost every school I have seen that accepts the ACT instead of the SAT requires the students to take the optional writing test. I'm sure this will be sorted out over the next few years.

Eagle-- I noticed last year as CDS' were being posted that new fields for 05-06 were either (1) filled out as the CDS required, or (2) largely left incomplete. I was surprised at how many colleges left the new fields blank, particularly knowing that they had the raw data. I suspect those leaving incomplete fields either did so because they lacked the man-power to crank the new statistics & set up new internal processes/policies regarding release of that particular type of info, or they simply didn't want to share that info at that time.....perhaps those that didn't complete the new fields have a grace year before the CDS police come down on them? Any case, I noticed that very little of the new CDS info, even if properly reported, ever got into other web-based postings, like incoming class college profiles. I speculate that we have a bit of city-hall syndrome here......colleges are accustomed to being in control over their information's dissemination, and it takes them some time to figure out their policy & spin of new, dictated info before they go ahead and release anything new.

I, too, am anxiously awaiting the next batch of CDS' to start being posted to see who includes data for the new fields & who doesn't, as well as to sort through those data that are published, especially on the new standardized testing fields you mentioned.

Some schools list "admitted" while others list "enrolled". Can we assume that admitted will always be higher since many admitted students go elsewhere so "admitted" always reflects higher stats than enrolled students?

It would depend largely on the caliber of the school. The difference is probably much less at HYPSM than at a second-tier college.

dogs- this set of data sheds some light on your point:

Providence EA applied 611 mean http://www.providence.edu/Admission/Undergraduate/Frequently+Asked+Questions.htm
Providence RD applied 586 mean http://www.providence.edu/Admission/Undergraduate/Frequently+Asked+Questions.htm
Providence EA admitted 632 mean http://www.providence.edu/Admission/Undergraduate/Frequently+Asked+Questions.htm
Providence RD admitted 617 mean http://www.providence.edu/Admission/Undergraduate/Frequently+Asked+Questions.htm
Providence EA enrolled 621 mean http://www.providence.edu/Admission/Undergraduate/Frequently+Asked+Questions.htm
Providence RD enrolled 598 mean http://www.providence.edu/Admission/Undergraduate/Frequently+Asked+Questions.htm

So, for Early Action candidates, 611 mean applied....632 mean were accepted....621 mean enrolled.
Similar relative pattern for Regular Decision candidates (but all #'s are lower than EA): 586 applied...617 accepted....598 enrolled

...interesting that I haven't found any new college profile pages with Class of 2010 SATwriting scores in the last several days.....guess we'll have to wait for the next batch of CDS' to be posted.
