SAT-II and AP subjects- same or different?

D/D goes to a high school that doesn't offer AP classes until junior and senior year, so when colleges are looking at her application, she will only have 3 AP exam scores to show (APWH, APUSH, AP-some kind of English).

If she takes SAT-II exams in her other subjects (eg Bio, Math, Spanish), will that compensate partly for not having AP scores in those subjects. Or would it be a smarter strategy to just take the SAT-II exams in the same subjects as her AP classes, maximize her chances of getting high scores, and be done with it.

Or should she do all of the above? Would it be crazy to take something like 6 SAT-II exams by senior year? Assuming she scores relatively high (700-800) in them, will that help at all or will the colleges simply take the 2-3 highest scores and discard the rest?

Don't worry about only having 3 APs after junior year. My d's high school also offers AP only for junior & senior years, and a lot of kids only have 1 AP after junior year, yet still have terrific admissions results.

Also, the scores on the AP tests don't matter as much as the fact that she took the courses - AP scores are self-reported while SAT II scores need to be sent officially.

Yes, that's what they'll do.

I think she should just take the SAT II's in the AP subjects and be done with it.

Thanks Chedva.

So if it is really so pointless to take >3 SAT-IIs why do I see many C.C'ers with five or sometimes even more SAT-IIs, even when they have mostly 800's and some 750+ scores?

Because they're compulsive?

I really don't know why they do it. All schools that require SAT II's say they will take the top 2 or 3 (if required) scores.

I am willing to bet that an administrative person or student copies the GPA and test scores onto a cover sheet and the admissions officers don't bother to look at the actual score report.
