SAT II: U.S. History Discussion May 2009

Just go to page 11-13 of the American Pagent book and it basically implies that Portugal was the first to systematically have exploration of the seas.

It then went on to say that this prompted Spain to have voyages, which led them to discovering America.

If they say that Portugal is right, the people that put Spain can argue that it had essentially nothing to do with the US (although it kinda does and it is in American Pagent)

If they say that Spain is right, the people that put Portugal can say that the way that the question is worded, it has to be Portugal. Forget that its a US history test…I wasted like 1 min trying to figure out what the question was trying to ask, and I thought that it was Portugal because collegeboard was trying to tie Portugal’s explorations to Spain finding the Americas…

the way that its worded, its 100% Portugal. However, the wording is ambigious and more important, has little relevancy to the US.

yes but the question asked who was the first one to have voyages all aroudn the world, NOT in the americas… can someone get the consolidated questions list here?

while FDR’s new deal won him more support from minorities…the chart showed that the biggest spike was before the new deal
it seems minorities were ****ed off at hoover and other republicans so they switched to democrats, and that’s why FDR won in the first place

yes the answer was BEFORE the depression, as roosevelt was not elected until 1932.

smarts1: i know…i am saying thats why it was Portugal. However, the question was kinda odd. Although, to prove some people wrong, it WAS mentioned in the AMerican Pagent that it was Portugal to explore around the world.

I’m taking this test in June…what would you guys say is the best out of these three prep books: Princeton Review, Barron’s, or Kaplan?

do other test takers’ performance influence the curve?
and we should all write an e-mail to collegeboard about spain/portugal issue.
i’m doing it. help me so that all of us can get an extra raw point

well portugal isn’t mentioned in brinkley
Edit: about emailing college board for the question how are you doing this
they’ll just delete all the emails
it needs to be somehow organized to attract any attention at all

smarts1- the shift happened in 1928…fdr became president in 1932…

i think the answer was portugal and i doubt the college board will care about some sore losers telling them a question was poorly worded. it’s the way the game works

i put before depression as well.
and i was really indecisive about portugal/spain, but i picked spain at the last second. hope it’s spain.
and are we sure about segregated army starting during the kroean war and
war hawks wanted to expand slavery into canada?

I picked Portugal because they were the ones that headed up the exploration with like the new inventions and everything.

First area colonized by europeans- MA or FL?

no omit, and 14 wrong would yield 750?
at least on the blue book it does…

ya segragated was during truman’s time in the korean war

What did you guys get for the one that talked about the colonial assemblies power?

For the war hawks, what were some answer choices?

I remember I put one that dealt with exapnsion BUT NOT the one that had west+south+slavery in it. I distincly remember this because I was debating between those two.

Desegregated armies started in the korean war with truman.

Yea i was also stuck on the war of 1812 question about henry clay. I forgot which 2 answers i was stuck on.

it was spreading slavery into canada and expanding the territory to the west by like getting rid of british and indians.

For the colonial assembly powers, I put that colonies controlled their governor’s salary, etc…

I’m taking this test in June…what would you guys say is the best out of these three prep books: Princeton Review, Barron’s, or Kaplan?

for the lowell farm girls one i though the answer was NOT that men and women could work together…im pretty sure that we learned that the owners of these mills advertised working there as “moral” and stuff like that…that being said, i think there was an option about domesticity or morality which i put as the answer.

I didn’t use any review books and I’m pretty sure i did well. Just review key terms/flashcards by time periods and study trends as well. I also took 5 practice tests the night before the test and that helped me out tons.
