SAT IIs

Hey guys!

So basically Rice said to send in 2 SAT 2's related to your field of interest. I am interested in studying bio; however I did really bad on the SAT 2 bio. I got 800 on Chinese, and 710 in Math 2. Can I just send in Math 2 and Chinese? or should I still send in the bio? Should I send in all 3?

Please help! this is very urgent! thanks

Is Chinese your native language? If so, I have heard that adcoms are not particularly impressed by people who take (and ace) SAT II tests in their native language.

I can’t really write, speak, or read Chinese. Although my parents speak Chinese well, I grew up in more of an English speaking environment. Does that really make any sense?

You should be ok in that case. As long as you haven’t listed Chinese as a language you are fluent in, that should be acceptable.

Good Luck!

[SAT Subject Tests - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](SAT Subject Tests - Wikipedia)

It might add a little perspective to look at the mean average for the SAT II’s. The Chinese listening test is high. (Is there a non-listening test, that might have a lower mean score – that you took?)

I was looking for Rice’s average SAT Subject scores, which I remember seeing a while back on the website, but I couldn’t find them.

That said, please don’t forget that these scores are just one slice of the whole picture. Are there other ways you can show your interest in biology – volunteer work, projects, etc.

Thank you so much for your help!

I volunteered in an university lab last summer. Does that count?

It sure does! I’d write about the experience – what it meant to you and what you look forward to doing at Rice. Sounds good!

Thank you so much C:
