Hi
I have a question I am a junior in HS. I first took my very first psat in October of my sophomore year. In this I believe I got a 144 or something around that range. I remember that I got a 50 in math and that was around the time I just started alg2. I think my reading was like 48 and writing a 46. I know my test scores aren’t the greatest lol. So I recently took a practice exam not college board it was offered by a third party. I got a 1320 on this… I am pretty sure that even though it claims that it is accurate it may not be as accurate as the college board sat. So my problem is that i want to score in the 2000+ range so that I can accepted to a college of my preference. I recently moved from Florida to california. They messed up my weighted gpa in school by over .4 percent. I had a 3.75 now its a 3.3 and my grades don’t seem to be getting better I recently got some c’s because it is much tougher here than at my old school. That is the main reason I am stressing out too much about this. So I would like to know if we take the worst case scenario being that the practice sat( the non collegeboard one) is closest to my real score can I increase by 600 points and what steps should I take? I forgot to mention that I will be taking the first one on 12/05/2015 and the other one towards the end of jan. After that I will try out the new modified SAT once or twice.Any tips on the SAT? Thanks for reading this rather lengthy post and caring about my success.
You should sit w/your HS Guid counselor and chart out a course. Today.
This should be of grave concern to you:
" I had a 3.75 now its a 3.3 and my grades don’t seem to be getting better I recently got some Cs because it is much tougher here than at my old school."
This portends badly for whatever college you attend. College work is many times harder than the work you’re currently struggling with. Please meet w/GC and find tutoring or other study improvement solutions. Colleges will most focus on your Junior and Senior year accomplishment. Cs and a 3.3 GPA will say you’re a higher risk student to pass college-level classes.
Frankly your predicted SATs match your transcript and HS performance to date. Your focus should be equally your HS GPA and not solely this test. Colleges weigh your transcript 100x more than your SAT.
But to your question, your goal of 2000 seems extremely unlikely. That, combined with your GPA will direct you to a certain band of colleges – not lofty ones, I’m afraid.
Hi thank you for your response I greatly appreciate as for my gpa I feel my old school didn’t prepare me enough and it’s only been a couple months at the new school. So far it’s hard because I am behind on the other material and when I was in Florida I wasn’t a good scholar I always strived for average grades. I didn’t put effort at all and now I regret it. So as far as my gpa it seems hard to improve that is why I am planning on focus on gpa but more on sat. I feel that I am capable of getting a good score on my sat as I heard from many people it’s not testing intelligence at all but rather hard work
Thank for your post I really appreciate I am dedicating my thanksgiving break to study for the sat and classes in weak at in school
That won’t cut it, quite frankly.
You’ll need to put I’d say at least <1 hour a day till Jan from NOW to study for the SAT.
Make 15 vocab flashcards a day. Study them. Take 2 sections. Review mistakes.
Rinse and repeat till Jan, and I’m sure your score will skyrocket. It takes dedication.
HOW BAD DO YOU WANT IT? xD
Thanks for the help I am getting tutored this thanksgiving break for like 3-5 hours per day
