I’m a sophomore aiming for HYP/MIT. I want to do premedicine or biomedical engineering in college.
I am planning on taking
SAT French
SAT Math II
SAT Bio
SAT Chem,
fullfilling the requirements of at least 2 sat subject tests.
At school,
I joined a latin extra curricular.
Should I study a bit of latin and take the SAT 2 latin test? I know I won’t get an 800, but will it show colleges I’m willing to take risks and study languages?
Colleges always like applicants who push themselves and take risks. That said, colleges, at least at the HYPM level, will not be impressed by a 5th Subject Test. In fact, considering that one can only take 3 Subject Tests in one sitting, if you were to take French/Math 2/one science on one date and are happy with the scores, taking the 4th at a later date is a waste of time and money, IMO.
C’mon, no, it doesn’t “improve” anything. Are you aware of what does matter to this level of colleges? Or how holistic works? It is not about the most AP or the most Sat2. If you want a tippy top, be the sort who gathers the right info.
But yes, the Latin EC may be good. Just don’t make it a passive activity, just hanging with friends.
Nope. More ≠ better. There is a lot more that goes into the application packet that test scores, and none of the schools at the HYPM level are looking to fill their class with students that had nothing better to do on a Saturday than take tests.
The only reasons why I was even OK with 3 is that it allows you to choose the best 2 and that a good score on French might get you out of the college’s foreign language requirement.
