I'm a junior looking to take Subject Tests at the beginning/middle of next year.

I'm definitely taking Math 2, Physics, and Latin, but I want to wait so that I can get in most of a semester of AP Physics C E+M (my school splits it up into Mechanics and Electricity and Magnetism) and Latin III.

I was wondering if colleges would like to see what I'm capable of in Literature and US History as well, even though I'm not quite as strong in those areas, or if it would be better to not send in relatively mediocre scores, and just stick with (probably) 600-something in Latin, 720+ in Physics, and 750+ in Math.

I think that I could probably get at least into the 600's on Lit and US History, too, but I don't know if that would help or hurt me when there are applicants sending in perfect everything.

Take the subjects you are strongest in. Don't worry about trying to look "well-rounded" in your subject tests; that will show through other parts of your application.

Oh yeah. And do I have to send in all of my SAT Subject Test scores, or can I try Lit and USH and then opt to pretend like it never happened if I do poorly? Just wondering... Thanks.

If you send any SATI/SATII scores, then your entire testing history will be sent (if you send the SATI, your SATIIs will be sent as well; you can't pick and choose scores to send.)

Latin is only offered in Dec and Jun. You may wish to spread the tests over 2 days and not take 3 in one sitting. Would you be prepared for any this coming June?

If you take the stronger subset first, send those scores, and then take ones where you don't think you will do as well, you can opt not to send that score report or just to places which require three.

Thanks jackief. I could definitely take Math this June, but I don't think I would be strong enough in Latin, Physics, or anything else. I'm only in Latin II right now and, as I said before, haven't been exposed at all to E+M, or optics, for that matter. Maybe I will take math now, then Latin and Physics right before the deadline.

Or, if I took them now, would it look really bad to retake them in December when I am more prepared, just so that I know what I'm up against when I am taking it really seriously?

3 is the max that almost any school in the US will ask for. I'm almost 100% certain of that. I think that P-Town and G-Town ask for 3, but most (even among highly selective schools) ask for (typically) 2.

as was said above, the vast majority only want 2 tests, some want 3. You might want to take Math now so that you wouldn't have to take 3 at one sitting next year. Or you could take it over if you were disappointed in your grade.

I think the words of wisdom say to take the lang tests after year III in school. You could also get a copy of the book from collegeboard which has one complete practice per subject and see how you do. You might do better (or worse) than you think in some subjects.

I didn't know that the book has a practice test for every subject. That could be really, really useful, just to give me an idea as to how much to study and whether or not I should take an exam.

I know that most schools won't even ask for three, but assuming high scores, would more than three be beneficial? Thanks again everyone for the help.

i say it wouldn't help. they look at your best subject tests - unless you get the same score for every subject test you take, there's probably no way they'll everl ook at all of them.
