SAT Math 1 vs Math 2 + Test Prep

What’s the best way to study for the SAT math 1 exam? I can’t find many practice tests online, so what are the best books to use for an 800? Would I need a graphing calculator?

Also, is SAT math 1 or 2 better? I haven’t got taken pre-cal, and got only 700 on the general SAT math portion, so I was leaning toward math 1, but I keep seeing people say that you should steer clear of math 1 if you can due to harsh scoring. Is this true?

I believe precalc and trig are on 2, not 1. So without precalc, it sounds like 1 is the better option.

I agree with the above user given your knowledge, but I think colleges tend to prefer math 2. if you do try to self-study for that one, I would suggest Dr. Chung’s/Barron’s for books and also use diagKNOWstics (online site) to help

It really depends on what your interests are for the college you are applying to. However, I will say that if you do have the time and resources, it may be better to study for the SAT II since represents a better grasp of mathematics.

I would also agree with @RichInPitt and I would recommend the CollegeBoard Math 1 practice book. They have one for every test. You could also check the collegeboard website for practice problems and maybe even 1 or 2 practice tests. If possible, try and take both Math 1 and 2.
