SAT Math I subject test

Hello I am wondering about how difficult the Math I test is. I am not the worst math student, though I am very very very far from the best. I did very well in Math up until Pre-cal (very high A’s) and now I feel hopeless because of higher level math. I need to take a math subject test to get in to most colleges because I am homeschooled. I know the SAT math reasoning is not typical math and I did much better on the ACT math section. How might the Math I subject test compare to ACT math? I would like to get in the low 700s at least, although I am in the low 600s in SAT math reasoning. Also, how many questions can you miss and still get a 700? thank you fam

I can’t advise you about SAT math subject prep, but I would like to point out that being homeschooled doesn’t mean you need a math subject test for college admissions.

My homeschooled daughter applied to way too many schools including state flagships, public ivies, private LACs and actual ivies. None of them asked for a math subject test. She was admitted to all of her EA schools.

Thank you so much for your reply!
Pomona is one college that asks for several subject tests and they want a math test somewhere in their 5 required test scores. I believe Duke was one school that wanted a math test as well, but I am not sure. I just figured it might be useful to have one. Do you mind if I ask where your daughter attends? I am looking in to Vassar, Duke, and Wash U. What tests did your daughter take? Also, did she have math grades for high school? That may make a difference. I do not have a math grade for my pre calculus credit.

She is finishing high school. She has only heard from the EA schools and two state rolling admissions places. She did not apply to any of the places you mention.
She only had math grades from me, and math is her weakest subject.

She has applied as a biology major.
I will PM you.

Looking at your original post again, I wonder why you don’t just use your ACT scores.

I will, and I have done more research about school test requirements, but I will still probably take a few subject tests just in case, and for the schools who want them.
