Sat Math IIC

I have a son, 12, who really likes math. He wants to take the math iic sat test (all math up to calc), but I don't know if this would be pushing it. Should he focus more on social matters and less on math (even though he loves and is very good at math)?

Er. Does he want to take the test now or later? Either way, I don't see the harm.... If he likes math, no need to push social studies, especially since sciences are generally deemed more 'important' these days.

Why does he want to take an SAT II test now, at age 12? Is he preparing for early entrance to college?

My son took the Math IIC after 8th grade,--he was very accelerated in Math, and had just finished BC Calculus from our high school curriculum. He actually used his score for his college aps (it was archived, so kind of a pain to have it sent). In your son's case, I think the only concern would be if, now that there's no "score choice" anymore, the score may remain on his record with all the scores he takes later. So you would want to be sure he's covered all the math that is on that test. In sum, I think with SAT II's , the best time to take them is when you've completed the curriculum being tested, regardless of the age you are.
