Is there a difference between the SAT math subject test and the math section on the SAT I? I want to get my math score up, and don’t know if it would be better to take the subject test or take another SAT. I’m not worried about increasing my English scores so that’s why I’m drawn to the subject test.
The math section on the SAT 1 covers math through geometry; the SAT subject test in Math level 1 covers math through Algebra II; and the the SAT subject test in Math level 2 covers math through pre-calc.
If you’ve taken pre-calc, it could definitely be worth it to take the Math level 2 subject test – since they’ve covered the material more recently, lots of more advanced math students actually do better on Math 2 than regular SAT math.
If you haven’t taken Algebra II, though, it might not be worth it to take the Math level 1 subject test, since there’s not that much additional material compared to the regular SAT.
but the math section of the SAT I is completely separate from the subject test, so if you want to increase your SAT I score, taking the subject test is not going to help…
Thanks!
I know they’re separate tests but I was wondering if taking the subject test instead would save me some time and still show my skill in math to make up for my lower score math score on the SAT.
oh ok then yeah it depends how low your SAT I math score is, but taking a subject test might help, especially if it’s the math 2 one.
