I'm trying to read this question and its answers over and over but it doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

if a number n is increased by 50% of its value, the result is equal to 35 less 40% if 35. what is the value of n?
answer choices are 10, 14, 18, 21, or 24

if a number n is increased by 50% of its value, the result is equal to 35 less 40% if 35. what is the value of n?

o_o
result is equal to 35 less 40% if 35?
Are you sure you copied this correctly?

first find what 35 less 40% of 35 is:
35- 35(.4)=21
Then find what n equals:
n+n(.5)
Then set them equal to each other and solve:
n+n(.5)=21
1.5n=21
n=14
