**** SAT MAY 2014 DISCUSSION (US ONLY) *****

“Curve is determined by the percentage of people getting questions right. For example. If literally everyone taking the test gets 5 questions wrong on the math and one sole kid gets two wrong, the kid with two wrong would get an 800”

Complete nonsense. In fact, the College Board/ETS does give special tests and makeup tests to small groups (such as individual test centers that have suffered power outages), and it is emphatically not the case that the best performer out of 50 or so at a special makeup tests automatically gets 2400.

then who decides how “hard” a test is, if it’s not the nation? college board certainly doesn’t

@eharr34 Ah, sucksville. My SAT tutor told me that when that happens you are supposed to tell your proctor and at the end of the test, after he or she collects your test booklet, you can fix the answer key. Not that you can do anything now, but just future reference for any other test takers.
@mcc123 I believe the answer was -5.

Do they grade the essays less harshly depending on how hard the prompt is? i.e. if the prompt is easy then you’re expected to write a much better essay for a 6 than if the prompt is hard? Because I felt that the prompt was harder than usual, at least harder than the January prompt.

@dopecake Nope, they expect you to write well no matter the topic. They’re not going to give you a 6 if it’s only 5 quality, no matter how hard the prompt is. Also, I don’t think any prompts are necessarily hard. But then again, I make up information to fit the prompt.

@ThanksIKnow I did tell my proctor at the end and she just said “sorry you can’t turn back now” but it’s all good since I’m happy with my CR score and really just wanted to do a little bit better on math

What was the essay prompt?

@Eggyolk Mine was something along the lines of “Is it fair to judge someone by their accomplishments or is it better to judge them based on their potential?”
@mcc123 And the answer was actually 5, not -5. My mistake.

are you a 100% sure it was 5? becasue i got 4

and the one of the two parabolas did you get -25?

@mcc123 I got -17, I’m almost 100% sure it’s correct

“The experimental section from the redesigned SAT was crazy. It had some diagrams, and the questions accompanying those diagrams were like they were straight from the science section of the ACT.”

Was that the ethics of the economy one?

i was doubting that one… the last one of that section of the shaded perimeter of a circle did you got E?

vpatwardhan

@mcc123‌ The answer to that was PiD. I don’t think it was choice E. And yes i’m positive it is 5. And -17 is correct as well.

how much do you think that 6 wrong and one blank would be?

@ThanksIknow Thanks

@mcc123 mid to high 600s

thanks

Was the w/z problem and the triangles inscribed in the circles problem also on the experimental math section?
