I recently took a practice SAT and felt comfortable about the whole thing until I got to the non-calculator portion. I didn’t necessarily think the questions were hard but I became rushed and ran out of time before I could finish. Any advice on pacing?
Do you mean the cr and writing sections?
@ethiololita OP is referring to the new SAT, which has a non-calculator portion.
@xxCaraBearaxx I feel like it’s more of an issue of practice and solving lots of problems quickly (but accurately). Maybe halfway through (or even earlier), see where you are at within the section and pace from there.
Honestly, the reason you’re not using a calculator is because you don’t need one for those questions.
In proctoring the (old) SAT, a bunch of us have always commented: our weakest students tend to be those who reach for their calculators the moment we say “OK, begin. Good luck.” They’re to tied to that calculator that they don’t stop and really read the question.
So take a deep breath, and spend lots of time working with the new format. And realize that you really can move more quickly through a lot of these questions-- many of them depend on number sense instead of calculations.
